the problem could be that the logic board is sending the wrong data to the mother board this is why its showing up wrong on the bios

the problem your having is not a mechanical problem and its not a head crash
its more likely that the logic chip which contains the firmware is damaged
the noise you hear is the drive head knocking ...

and allso the white lable underneath which is 8 dig number on some

say at the bottom underside where the ide cable plugs in

for there recovery side
