Preamp failure sounds like a typical clicking. Microchip (Preamp) can not transfer any data, so read/write heads just click.

There is many of programs that claim they can recover deleted data. I am not familiar with the one you questions about.

Bumping a drive should not have any effect on PCB, it usually leads to stalled motors or head problems inside a drive.
