Sorry I haven't replied sooner, I have finals this week and have been a little side tracked. After this week is over I will begin tracing the board and see if I can find anything.

I was looking around the web the other day and found this link to failing HDD sounds, I thought it was pretty cool.

For troubleshooting microprocessor based logic, consider these things:

1/ power supplies
2/ oscillator
