I have a 500GB WD that one day when I plugged it in it asked me to reformat. You could still use the drive, spins up, etc. just that my data is no where to be found by me.
I brought it to a specialist who's diagnosis is a "head crash."
Is this true?
If there is a head crash would the drive ask me if I want to reformat? I thought a head crash makes that clicking sound, doesn't spin, etc.

I'm very new to all this lingo and have been reading many forums.

Thanks in advanced for any explanation. Very Happy

You should provide us with more details so we could diagnose your issue. You may even save your data. Just need more info..
