New to this board, so appreciate any help and advice.

I'm a super techie but never really ventured into HDD failures farther than logical problems.

I have a friends Samsung HD321KJ HDD. It powers up, spins, but is not recognized in BIOS.

Linux sees /dev/sdb with no partition data. Running DMDE on it shows 00's and reports IO error upon reading any blocks.

If the issue is firmware, can I simply purchase a like logic board and use that? or is information actually stored on the disk somewhere protected?

Also, there is no known cause for error, possibly overheated case.

Thanks
