Hi All,

My Seagate 2TB Barracuda LP has died. I would like to retrieve the data from it, but cannot justify the $2500 phone quote I received.

Can anyone identify what the problem is and offer solutions or things to try?

Here is a you tube video I loaded of the drive spinning up:

Yes, I know I shouldn't open the case, but I am at the last attempts of trying to retrieve data being binning it.

Cheers.

Video is unavailable on youtube.

If you have opened your drive, that could be a reason for high quote you have received.
If you have not, please don't do it. Opening a drive will not give you any clues, but might be very bad for chances of recovery.

Apoligies, here is the link to the drive on youtube:

Quote for $2500 was straight after the drive failed.

The drive is 90% backed up - only a handful of short movies of the kids I would like to get (about 100MB).

You should not have opened a drive, specially powering it on in opened condition. It exposes a drive to dust and other particles which are deadly for any drive. Should have called few more places to get proper diagnostics and estimates.

Now it will definitely cost you a lot of money, if its still possible to recover data from that drive.
