I found this story
http://www.deadharddrive.com/
and that brought me here to the forum. The story was great Razz

I just have a quick question.

I own two computers.
1 Gateway w/40G HD
1 Dell w/80G HD

I would like to swap the Hard drives. Can this be done? Or is this like trying to use a volkswagon rim and tire on a Honda?

If not, I can just buy a new or secondary HD. But I would really like to swap them.

Advice please thank you.

Normaly I just dive right in and start taking things apart and trying to do the work with out any knowledge. But, something tells me to ask and this looked like a nice place to request help.

Thank you for your time.

It depends if your operating system (OS) is installed on the hard drives.

If so, you will need to reinstall the OS on both hard drives deleting all data on the OS drive and/or partition.

If not, you can swap them easily. Turn off the machines. Swap them. Turn them back on again. Both drives should be detected automatically.

Yes it can. Do you have your recovery disc's? If so just swap the hard drives and run the recovery disc's. Good luck. Cool

Thank you guys for the replies. I just swapped them and re-installed Win XP on both systems.
Everything was easy and I appreciate the help.

Happy Thanksgiving.
