It's not particularly that it's "bad for the forum" more that it's just useless posting that clutters up things with misinformation and nonsense.

A do follow link is a fair reward to those who are active forum members. I have my own forum and I allow signature links to people's websites. But, they have to be there because they actually have a real interest in data recovery. When I start seeing posts to things like mortgage companies and viagra sites, I assume spam bot and just ban the users IP address.
