Had a computer power supply fail, when it was replaced my boot WD400 drive would not spin up. Managed to find a drive on ebay with the same serial number WD400-00DEA0, made 4 months later, physically looked identical (although motors seem to be of different manufacture), board had same serial number on edge 2060 001129 001, similar but different serial number on bar code sticker xxxx 001129 001. Swapped boards and drive has spun up and I have recovered my files.

Thanks to everyone who posted here and gave me confidence to try it.

Good. These old drives were easy. This won't work with modern drives... Sad
