Got a broken Seagate 500 GB ST3500830A and replaced the PCB from a drive with the same firmware 3.AAC, model number and P/N 9BJ036-500. (It's a 7200.10.) When I put the new PCB on, the drive makes noise but I don't think it fully spins up. It almost sounds like the drive is doing some sort of start up scan. It does seem like the IDE controller of the bios is recognizing something or at least waits the full time to time out.

I noticed that the PCBs of the new drives have a ST chip as the largest chip on the PCB. The PCB of the broken hard drive has a Agere chip. Any suggestions or thoughts? (The smooth chips and the samsung chips seems to be close or the same.)

Any suggestions, thoughts, or advice?
