I backed up a couple of servers onto a WD2500 and WD2000 drive. I laid them on a coffee table in my living room marked so i wouldn't forget which one was which. I returned and plugged them in and discovered they both were not working. WTF? I can only assume that the heatwave that passed by and my bone head move of placing the drives directly under a skylight was the culprit. Does anyone know if sunlight can kill a drive?

Thanks in advance.

HH

It's super unlikely for sunlight to kill drives, speacially 2 of them.

Temperatures within a hard drive are so hot, sometimes you can even not hold it with your hands ... so I do not believe in direct sunlight hypothesis.
