Hi all,
Despite this being an absolute swine to swap head arms over on (screws underneath/on top/etc) it worked and I got most of the data back. I'd tried swapping the boards but this didn't work (spins up but no head movement) and the old board was too far gone.

Tips:-
1) Try and flip the hard drive magnet out and away from the drive Smile
2) that little white thing is the head parking mechanism, if you are careful you can put the heads back into the groove when replacing them by spreading the arms apart with a toothpick or similar.
3) This works even when the board swap fails, as long as its the same model number.
4) DO NOT attempt to move the heads back onto the platter when the motor isnt spinning or they will break and scratch the (glass thin film) platter...

Regards,
-A
