I have a toasted western digital wd600. I posted about this in the want to by section, and I have a couple of more questions.

Model:wd600BB-00CAA1
Date: 20 Nov 2002
DCM: HSEHCV2AH

Drive parameters LBA 117231408

I tried the freezer trick, and it still doesn't spin or anything. it does get warm if i leave it plugged in. I guess that means it is the board?

1. I have only received replies from the "Big Three" people who have these as a business. Are they all trustworthy?

2. One of the "big three" said I could send it to them and have it repaired. Is this a good idea?

3. Another mentioned that I must remove a part of the old board and put it in the new board, what does this involve?

Any help? I have pictures of my little 10month old that I don't want to lose!

thank you!

Brian

p.s. If you are one of the people I mentioned, don't be insulted, I am just trying to find as much info as I can.

Some boards have protection diodes and fuses.

If yours is one of these, then a DIY repair is relatively easy.

If you can upload a detailed photo of the component side, one of us may be able to help you.

Good luck.
