Well I literally watched my 200GB Seagate drive go up in flames. Smoke and flame shot out of the PCB.

FW: 3.AAH
Date Code: 06415
Site Code: WU

So I started searching around on eBay to see if I could find a PCB or donor drive. I found one PCB. It didn't list what the FW, site code, etc. was. But I figured what the heck.

I removed my old one and put this one on. The drive spun up, but that's it. I couldn't see it in Windows. So after some searching and stumbling across this site, I found out that I needed to try to match the FW at the very least. So I bought a donor drive.

Swapped PCBs and I still can't see it.

Any ideas on what to try next? The donor drive does work. I tested it prior to pulling the PCB off.

It seems that besides your board, powersurge killed heads on your drive.
There is 3 solutions to your problem
1) You forget about your drive and data on it.
2) You do a research and find data recovery company with fair prices.
3) You attempt to swap the heads on your own. If you didn't have any experience with data recovery, specially swapping head stack, you will end up with option 1 as soon as you will remove a top cover.

#3 could be successful if you spend at least a year learning and practicing.

I don't mean to sound really harsh, only trying to be realistic.

Wish you best luck in any of those approaches.

Not what I was hoping to hear.Sad

Data recovery companies seem to charge outrageous rates. I think one of the last quotes I saw was $600-2000.

Guess I'll keep researching around.
