Personally, I have never had lightning strike the same type of drive twice, but then I have probably only had a half a dozen drives go sour and I don't claim to be some kinda expert.

Can anyone tell me what is the absolute worst, most unreliable drives they have ever had? Brand? Model? Amount of smoke that came out, etc?

Thanks,

IBM drives are a pain in the @ss.

But remember, Western Digital and Seagate are exactly the same.....

Maxtors seem to work well. This is my 3rd Western Digital to go on me. I hate them! GARBAGE!

IBMs are the worst. They are doomed from the moment you install and start to use them.

There are also NEC drives. Yep... I remember having a NEC HD once and it did VERY werid noises which delayed the writing. Go rid of them through the warranty and NEVER AGAIN.

But the only drive that COST me data was the IBM Deathstar 120GXP... IBM should be raided by chimps with chainsaws an machine guns because of these drives.
