Maxtor DiamondMax 10 300GB Model 6L300R0 PATA133

Turned on machine today, heard some clicking, went to the BIOS, its says MAXTOR SABRE, autodectiong states Capacity, Head, Precomp, Landing Sector all set to 0. Theres an option to set the settings manually. Any ideas ?

I've tried using PowerMax, but it doesnt detect the HDD.

Any advice ? Would changing the logic board fix this or is it dead ?

Thanks

Crying or Very sad

Managed to get a identical / similar hard disk. Swapped logic boards, no change, its still making the sqeaking / clicking noise at the begining, when turned on Sad

Put old board into new drive, it works fine Confused so i guess its not a logic board issue.

Opened the top of the hard disk, everything seems to look fine, the platter thing dont look damaged, however there is 1 or 2 marks / dust particles.

Thinking of somehow taking out the platters and transplanting to new drive, but cant seem to work out how to take them out, the screws seem to be tucked away and the aperture thing doesnt look like it can be moved out the way.

Anyone done this before ? Very Happy
