Well, just to let you know, your story has inspired me too. I expect my new hd to be here by Friday. Your problem doesn’t seem to be limited to IDE drives. Man was it hard to find a replacement. But what’s the old saying, you always find it in the last place you look (DUH)……EBAY. I found the exact replacement, firmware and all. Man I hope this works. I’m not quite sure we have the same problem though. I walked away from my computer for 30 minutes, come back and no power. My PC will not even power up. I go to the local PC club, they say my Power supply is shot, so I replace it and still nothing. I go back to them and they say that maybe my motherboard is gone too, but the HD should be fine. So I replace it and still nothing. I then start troubleshooting on my own. I start by unplugging everything from the power supply except the hd and nothing. I then plug everything back up and unplug the hd and what do you know, back to bios we go. So then I take the drive to 2 other computers in the office and try a hot and cold install. With the hot install, my hd kills their computers power, and with the cold install, they wouldn’t even power up. So now I start looking for data recovery specialist, because my whole job and department is on this drive!!!! “Backup”? “Backup who”? You know the same old story. Anyway, I spoke to 3 different companies; they all had ranges from $700 to $3000, what the hell? And then, low and behold, you pop up (in one of my many searches) with this incredible story.

I am crossing my fingers; I will let you know either way.

I can't believe it, it actually worked. Nev, you can't imagine how great greatfull I am that you posted your story and how lucky I feel for finding it. You literally helped save my company thousands of dollars in data recovery fees. I only hope this will help others.

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to email me @ rmiller1107@aol.com, I will be happy to help in any way I can.
