Hello.
Greetings from Poland Smile
Year and a half I am in possession of hard disk WD6401AALS. A few days ago, during normal operation, the computer crashed. After reboot, the BIOS does not recognize the disc. You can hear that the plates are spinning and the electronics are no traces of burning. I would add that a few weeks ago I had the same situation, except that after several actuations of the situation returned to normal. Has anyone encountered this kind of situation? Is there any chance of recovery (eg by replacing the pcb with a smooth drive)?
The disk is still under warranty, but I fear that, after putting it in for repair, the data stored on it are lost.

Please help.

hi,
i currently i work on similar drive. WD5001AALS-00L3B2 imaging now. for kind of PCB. if you want to swap PCB for try data won't lose. but it won't help. as this kind of PCB had to do FW transfer. swap ROM chip or read FW from original PCB/hard drive(rebuild from hard drive) write into good PCB. without this operation simple swap PCB nothing help. it contain unique data matching with firmware which stock in hard drive. i guess your PCB model is 2060-701622-000 REV P1
but from your detail it's spin. right? if so i don't think it PCB problem. it may be got FW problem. do you need help from me? i can handle everything even it got crash head. please feel free to contact me by email or MSN. thanks .
