I've got Seagate ST3750330AS and the symptoms indicate that the PCB is broken.

Before I purchase a donor PCB (I have requested one and there is one available, that I could purchase), I just would like to know, how to test the Pre-amp in order not to purchase donor PCB just to find out that the Pre-amp was not OK.

Additionally, there is not what so ever trace or sign, that something would have burned or damaged, in the PCB.

But the SMOOTH Chip is the one I suspect as it heated up so quickly when the power was turned on.

hi,
except SMOOTH Chip. can you find out others chip damaged? for test preamp you can take Multimeter for check the pins. but i don't think this way good for reach your purpose. you'd better is get a donor PCB swap ROM chip and attach it on hard drive for test.
