A few years ago I bought a Samsung HD501LJ 500gb capacity, s-ata HDD, and a few days ago the pcb is fried/burnt.... i localised the fried part of it and i want to replace it.... here is a picture of the HDD and in the red circle is the fried component http://kep.psharing.com/625291.jpg, if somebody knows what kinda component i thank for that information....

Check diode to the right to see if its shorted.

Its best to replace it with similar diode, but if you don't have one, make sure you have good Power supply, remove that diode by cutting it out, connect a drive and copy your data off of it. Remember, your drive won't have any protection, so if there any spikes in power or any other shorted parts, you can create ma bigger problem.

Samsung SATA disc or external storage device are really outstanding. They offer durability. But I don’t think that they are as durable as compared to WD or Toshiba. Anyway, I try my luck with this Samsung thing I and will review about it soon.
