Ok, if your lucky enough for a PCB swap to work and you can access your data wether from a USB enclosure or connected straight to your MB,,,deep breath !. What next?

Whats the best way to get that data off before it fails again or overheats?.

what is the best back up solution?

1. External dedicated storage solution.
2. USB enclosure with third party drive.
3. High Quality High Capacity DVD.

Maybe either option 1. or 2. combined with 3. is the way to go. Any advice?.

Thanks in advance

Pedro

I would suggest transferring your data to another hard drive. Whether it's internal or external. This will be quicker than transferring to anythingelse. If you suspect a possible failure I would suggest getting as much as possible transferred as quickly as possible starting with your most imporatant data first. You may also have bad sectors etc so keep an eye on it because it can hang up. Once you get what you need I would recommend backing up everything to more than just one device or type of media. I backup my important files regularly. I backup to DVD every 2 to 3 months depending on how much data I have. I have a backup hard drive that I use every month or two and my favorite is an 8gb USB flash drive that I backup my most important stuff to every few days or atleast once a week. I even make sure I backup to and from my ipod and cell phone but not regularly. I know it sounds like overkill but sometimes I think it's not enough. You never know what will happen!

1. Next time when you buy Harddisk, buy two identical one.

2. Waiting for cheap SSD

3. Buy Harddisk with single platter

4. Backup important files to a USB thumb or DVD
