Hi there, the usual story...

I switched off the PC last night, this morn the 2nd HDD will not play.

Took the HDD off the PC, hooked it up to a SATA enclosure, nothing. It starts, the heads are moving, then it makes some faint clicking noises abt 4 times and sits like that - does not power down. Sometimes the PC recognizes the drive, however in BIOS only.

The HDD has not been shocked in any way. I was suspecting it may die so I already had bought a replacement however the last month's data is not backed up.. argh !

Now, I can still buy this particular model of HDD for abt $60. Would it be worth trying to replace the PCB ? Date of HDD is 30 apr 2005. This is the model without cache I believe.

I will also go to a recovery shop but they quoted from $400 to $3,000.

Any chance that replacing the PCB may bring it back enough to copy the data off it ?

Once I am done with it I will donate it to anyone wanting a PCB or whatever ..
Thank you
