				| Hi,
Like everyone else I have a problem with a Western Digital WD10EADS 1TB drive.

Number printed on the Board: 206-701640-002 Rev. A

I had a kind of perfect storm situation. I had just moved my data to the Western Digital to backup so I could get a NAS ready to move it back. The Western digital was sitting on my desk not even being used. When I plugged it in the first time, it loaded but said I had a lot of bad sectors. The second time I plugged it in I got a message saying that the Master Boot record was missing. Now the drive will turn on it makes the usual noises a hard drive would make. It will run for about 2 minutes then turns off.

My Question is I found and bought another WD10EADS with the same the board has the same number as printed on the board. The only difference I see is one of the Chips is labeled SAMSUNG and not Windbond. Could I swap them around to see if my old drive will startup so I can retrieve any data from it. I also found a logic board on HDDZone which is the same with the same chip. Is it worth trying that instead. The only problem I have with that one is the guy says I will have to transfer the Bios from one board to the other. Not sure I have the skills to do that.

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

 Phil

				| Bad sectors will not be resolved by getting a new PCB, just a waste of time and money. If you still able to, try to make an image of your drive to a new one a then try to recover your files from new drive.

				| Hi, I tried creating an image but the drive stops spinning after about 2 minutes. I guess I have to send it in somewhere. Do have any suggestion on who to use?

 Thanks

 Phil

				| What are your thoughts on using a program that claims to regenerate bad sectors. I was looking at HDD regenerator. Do they really work?
 Thanks for your help

I don't think it will help you recover your data, but could cause more problems.

Where are you located? Maybe we can point you to a closest recovery pro.

				| The Western Digital external hard disc is one that I have been using for the last couple of years and I believe it delivers what you look for. It is a perfect storage device that you can get an affordable price.
